Join Hudson Institute for a conversation on Taiwan’s battle against COVID-19. The event will feature recorded remarks from Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu followed by a discussion of experts.

Although cases appeared to be surging at the end of January, Taiwan’s share in the global caseload remains low despite a population of 24 million people. Taiwan acted swiftly by appointing its minister of health in charge of containment efforts, using cell phones to monitor the health status of quarantined citizens, increasing its manufacturing of relevant medical equipment, and screening travelers from China. Taiwan has also assisted the global response, recently announcing it will send 2 million face masks to the United States and other nations.

In addition to swift government action, what has made Taiwan successful thus far in responding to the COVID-19 outbreak? How should the international community mobilize to pressure China for greater transparency in the future? What threats to Taiwan’s sovereignty does the disease pose in the short term? The panel of experts will address these and other questions following the foreign minister’s remarks.
