Hudson Institute will host U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher and author Jeff Bergner to discuss Bergner’s new book, The Vanishing Congress: Reflections on Politics in Washington. Government shutdowns have become the norm in recent years, with the current furlough lasting longer than any in history. These recurring gridlocks have many asking what has changed within this vital branch of U.S. government to make it so regularly dysfunctional.

The Vanishing Congress takes an in-depth look at the U.S. Congress, and goes behind the scenes to illustrate how it really works. Bergner contends that many of the proposals to reform Congress are largely extraneous and offers several steps to restore Congress to the legislative body that the Constitution envisioned.
