Douglas MacArthur was an important leader in three major wars before his dismissal in 1951 by President Harry Truman, an action that still generates controversy today. Yet MacArthur foresaw the great geopolitical shift of the century—away from Europe and toward the Pacific Rim—and oversaw the transformation of Japan from a broken imperial power to Asia’s most dynamic economy and democracy.

Douglas MacArthur: American Warrior draws on new archival research to produce a significant reappraisal of one of the most polarizing figures in American history. Henry Kissinger has called the book “a compelling new biography” and historian Andrew Roberts has pronounced it “a towering achievement.”

On June 20, Hudson Institute hosted a reception and talk by the book's author, Hudson Institute Senior Fellow and Pulitzer Prize Finalist Arthur Herman. Hudson Institute Distinguished Fellow Christopher DeMuth delivered introductory remarks.
