Join Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Bryan Clark and Adjunct Fellow Dan Patt for a discussion with panelists ADM Scott Swift, USN (Ret), Gen Hawk Carlisle, USAF (Ret), and LTG Eric Wesley, USA (Ret) on the challenges facing U.S. forces against a peer competitor like China and how the U.S. military can regain its advantage through adaptability at the operational edge.

Leaders of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command made clear this year that China’s military will be in a position to successfully Taiwan and other U.S. allies during this decade. With constrained budgets and little time to modernize, the U.S. Department of Defense needs new ways to regain its edge. Adapting and recomposing deployed U.S. forces in theater could create decision-making and warfighting advantage by growing the options available to commanders and foreclosing choices for opponents. However, the U.S. military lacks any processes or organizations to integrate joint forces, which are composed by the military services months in advance of deployment. Please join our expert panel for a discussion of how the DoD could implement joint mission integration and its implications for Pentagon acquisition and budgeting processes.
