Join Hudson Institute Distinguished Fellow Kenneth Weinstein for a moderated discussion with Yahya Cholil Staquf and Hudson Distinguished Fellow and former Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo. A “free and open Indo-Pacific” is a bold strategic goal, with diverse visions of what this means and competing strategies for how to achieve it. Yahya Cholil Staquf, General Secretary of Indonesia’s Nahdlatul Ulama, the world’s largest Muslim organization, will share his vision of a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific in conversation with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a key architect of America’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy and a leading advocate for the centrality of international religious freedom to U.S. foreign policy.

As a former member of the advisory council to President Joko Widodo, Mr. Staquf combines significant political experience with his present role as a senior spiritual leader of the 90-million member Nahdlatul Ulama. Mr. Staquf has developed a vision of the region that goes beyond government-to-government cooperation around security and economic interests: working to strengthen the Indo-Pacific by fostering mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation among its diverse peoples, cultures, religions, and civil society organizations. Please join Hudson Institute for this important discussion.
