**Please be advised: This event will premiere on this page at 3:00 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, September 15.**

Join Hudson Institute’s Forum for Intellectual Property and NYU School of Law’s Classical Liberal Institute for a discussion with USPTO Director Andrei Iancu.

Director Iancu will address how the patent system serves a key role in driving the U.S. innovation economy and creating a flourishing society. The conversation will draw on the moral and economic justifications for patent rights and the reasons why, as Director Iancu notes, “Invention is the story of America.” He will address the uniquely American approach to patenting and how the U.S. democratized innovation by equalizing property rights in all types of inventions created by people from all walks of life.

Director Iancu will also address current policy issues, including the role of patents in the biopharmaceutical industry’s remarkable response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the technology-neutral nature of the U.S. patent system, the 44% change in examination results under the new section 101 examination guidelines, the impact of his reforms of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and why the PTAB’s transitional covered business method program should end pursuant to its sunset provision in the America Invents Act.
