In his first public remarks since being appointed by President Trump, Ambassador Billingslea will share his plans for arms control negotiations with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. The discussion will be moderated by Hudson Senior Fellow Tim Morrison.
In February 2021, the New START Treaty between the United States and Russia will expire. President Trump has focused on what could be a revolution in arms control: bringing the United States, Russia, and China to the negotiating table to discuss reductions in all categories of nuclear weapons. Russia, however, is making a full-court press for a simple extension of the existing New START Treaty, while China has indicated it has no plans to participate—perhaps due to its growing nuclear arsenal.
