Hudson Institute will host a discussion with author Heath Hardage Lee on her new book, __The League of Wives: The Untold Story of the Women Who Took on the U.S. Government to Bring Their Husbands Home__. The event will focus on Lee’s account of the determined actions taken by spouses of U.S. prisoners held in North Vietnam to bring those captured and missing in action home.

Soon after the United States signed a peace agreement with North Vietnam on January 27, 1973, the first planeload of American prisoners of war held in Hanoi landed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. However, the prisoners’ journey from captivity to freedom involved much more than American officials painstakingly negotiating the Paris Peace Accords.

The League of Wives chronicles the relentless drive of Andrea Rander and other wives of soldiers held captive or missing in Vietnam. For years they were told by government officials to remain quiet and out of the public eye. Undaunted, they organized and led a media campaign to stop the inhumane treatment of U.S. soldiers, worked to secure their release, and tried to account for those missing on the battlefield.
