The Global Leadership Award is presented to a man or woman in honor of lifetime accomplishment and strategic leadership in service to the principles that Hudson Institute values: promoting democracy, free markets and economic growth, innovation, national security and a strong civil society.

Rupert Murdoch’s lifework is an embodiment of these principles, from his days in Australia running the News Limited to those in the UK running The Times and The Times of London, building Fox, Fox News and the Wall Street Journal. Throughout, he has been a steadfast friend of freedom and pro-growth economics.

This award was especially significant to us because of Mr. Murdoch’s dedication to the crucial role that ideas play in the world of policy and his appreciation of the importance that strategic leaders play in changing the course of history.

The fact that Mr. Murdoch accepted this award as he transitioned leadership of 21st Century Fox to his sons makes the timing all the more auspicious.

Mr. Murdoch offered an important address on how to restore American leadership abroad and prosperity at home as we pay tribute to his visionary leadership. He joins a distinguished list of Hudson honorees that includes Ronald Reagan, George Shultz, Henry Kissinger, Mitch Daniels, Dick Cheney, Joseph Lieberman, David Petraeus and Shinzo Abe.

Thank you for those who joined us for what was an unforgettable evening as we paid tribute to Rupert Murdoch’s lifetime of achievement.
