Biography

Jonathan Schachter is a senior fellow with Hudson Institute’s Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East and specializes in international security, strategy and diplomacy.

Mr. Schachter was an advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. His portfolio included US-Israel relations, the Iran nuclear deal, Israel Diaspora affairs and the unprecedented expansion of Israel's ties in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. He concluded his tenure by serving on the team tasked with exposing materials from Iran’s nuclear archive in 2018.

Previously, Mr. Schachter was a research fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv and a lecturer at Northwestern University, where he taught courses on national security, foreign policy, terrorism and public policy for over a decade.

As the managing deputy director for emergency management at the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications, Mr. Schachter led the division responsible for coordinating the city of Chicago’s efforts to contend with the entire spectrum of emergencies.

Mr. Schachter holds a doctorate in policy analysis from the RAND Graduate School and master's degrees in Near Eastern studies from the University of Michigan and Middle Eastern history from Tel Aviv University.
