A Conversation with Former METI Minister Nishimura on the Takaichi Government’s Economic Strategy

The new Japanese government under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is poised to take on a vigorous economic policy program aimed at fostering long-term growth, innovation, and supply chain resiliency. In 2025, Japan concluded a trade deal with the United States, signed a memorandum of understanding for a $550 billion industrial fund, and battled disruptions to its manufacturing supply chains.
