Please be advised: This event will premiere on this page at 12:00 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, June 1. Register for the event "here":https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-event-a-conversation-with-ambassad… or via the register button.

Join Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Miles Yu and former U.S. Ambassador of Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, and Tuvalu, Joseph Cella, to discuss American diplomacy and the great power competition with China in the South Pacific. This region is fast becoming a new frontier of a global fight against the autocratic model of governance that the Chinese Communist Party is endeavoring to spread worldwide.

These experts will also discuss: the strategic value of the South Pacific islands to both China and the U.S.; pandemic diplomacy; the Five Eyes alliance in the Southern Hemisphere; Taiwan’s international space in the region; and the People’s Republic of China’s ambition and strategic moves in the Pacific islands. Please join Hudson Institute for this important discussion.
