Fellow and Director, Kleptocracy Initiative

The United States and the United Kingdom are home to the world’s two leading financial centers and cooperate closely in the fight against economic crime. While the U.S. continues to lead on global enforcement efforts, the U.K. has introduced an innovative series of measures to crack down on illicit financial flows.

Join Hudson Institute for a discussion on countering global corruption with the Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP, a senior Conservative Member of Parliament and former U.K. Secretary for International Development. Mr. Mitchell has led recent bipartisan efforts to crack down on money laundering through the British Overseas Territories, which include several notorious tax havens.

As the U.K. leaves the European Union, how will it balance the need to attract foreign investment with recent efforts to drive out dirty money? Can differences with the U.S. over Huawei 5G and other issues be overcome to forge a closer transatlantic alliance against authoritarian kleptocracy?
