In recent months, there have been significant shifts in the Kremlin’s usually static leadership structure. Many of Vladimir Putin’s long-time allies have been removed from power and replaced with younger deputies. At the same time, there has been substantial consolidation in the Russian security agencies.

On October 14, Hudson Institute hosted a panel discussion to assess what these changes mean for the stability of Putin’s regime and its exercise of power at home and abroad. Speakers included Brian Whitmore, Senior Russia Analyst with Radio Free Liberty/Radio Europe, and Angela Stent, Director of the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies at Georgetown University. Hudson Research Fellow Hannah Thoburn moderated the discussion.
