Network neutrality regulation, currently under consideration by the Federal Communications Commission, could have substantial economic effects on the Internet and investment in Internet infrastructure. On October 1st, Hudson Institute’s Center for the Economics of the Internet welcomed Professor Tom Hazlett of Clemson University to discuss the potential impact of network neutrality regulation. Harold Furchtgott-Roth, Hudson Institute senior fellow and director of the Center for the Economics of the Internet, moderated the discussion.
Hazlett’s scholarship builds on Nobel Laureate Ronald Coase’s analysis of property rights and their application to broadcast spectrum. He has written several groundbreaking papers identifying the excessive costs of regulations, particularly those imposed by the Federal Communications Commission. In addition to his scholarly work, Hazlett has contributed to policy debates by testifying before Congress and authoring numerous op-eds on a wide range of economic topics.
