Biography

Tomas Janeliūnas was a visiting fellow in the Center on Europe and Eurasia at Hudson Institute. His work focuses on foreign policy and European security.

Dr. Janeliūnas is chief research officer at the Eastern Europe Studies Centre and professor at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University.

He has lectured at Vilnius University since 2003 on subjects including strategic studies, national security, Lithuanian foreign policy, and the foreign policy of great powers. His academic specializations include national security, foreign policy, and energy security issues. His most recent academic work has focused on the United States–Taiwan–Lithuania triangle and the agency of small states.

Dr. Janeliūnas is an expert on Lithuania’s national security and foreign policy, regularly commenting in national and international media on international politics and security issues. He has contributed to national strategic documents and analytical studies of various governmental institutions. His most recent book, Foreign Policy Analysis of a Baltic State: Lithuania and “Grybauskaitė Doctrine” (Routledge) was recognized at Vilnius University as the best academic work in social science in 2021.

He received his PhD in social science and political science, MA in political science, and BA in political science from Vilnius University.
