Denny Tamaki

Governor, Okinawa Prefecture

Okinawa Prefecture is home to nearly 60 percent of the United States’ active duty troops in Japan and hosts more than 70 percent of America’s exclusive-use military facilities in the country. As the regional security environment grows more uncertain, US-Japan defense cooperation is increasingly intertwined with Okinawans’ priorities.

In recognition of this dynamic, Hudson’s Japan Chair will host Governor Denny Tamaki of Okinawa Prefecture for an address on rising regional tensions and the importance of putting bilateral defense on a more sustainable footing, with an emphasis on building trust among US Forces Japan, the Japanese government, and the Okinawan prefectural government. Following his address, the governor will sit down for a fireside chat with Hudson Japan Chair Kenneth R. Weinstein before responding to questions from the audience.

For in-person attendees, simultaneous translation from Japanese to English will be available upon request.
