The genocide of the Uyghurs has brought global attention to the persecution of religious minorities—including Muslims, Christians, Falun Gong practitioners and Tibetan Buddhists—by the CCP. Following Xi Jinping's directive to “Sinicize” religion in 2018, the state issued regulations requiring houses of worship to uphold CCP dictates that include censorship, high-tech surveillance, and restricted membership. New administrative rules issued this year specify that religious leaders must actively support CCP practices, leadership, and core values, even in sermons and teachings.
