On Wednesday, February 14, Hudson hosted an event with David Malpass, Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, who offered his perspective on U.S. economic competitiveness in a globalized economy and the status of Trump administration trade initiatives. He also discussed the health of the global finance system; the role of multilateral institutions in fostering development; and the administration’s efforts to address what is arguably the most pressing economic challenge facing the U.S. and our allies: a rising China in which the state’s role in the nation’s economy has been increasing.

To examine these important topics and more, Under Secretary Malpass delivered opening remarks and then conducted a one-on-one conversation with Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Tom Duesterberg.

Under Secretary Malpass oversees policies in the areas of international finance, trade in financial services, investment, economic development, and international debt policy. He also coordinates financial market policy with the Group of Seven industrialized countries. Mr. Malpass previously served in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations and was Chief Economist at Bear Stearns.
